In this video I do a really useful upgrade for my gardening hoe, plus I make a planting tool on the woodturning lathe.

With this project I wanted to solve the eternal loose handle problem. So I decided to replace the wooden handle of the hoe by welding a metal pipe in it’s place.

I begun by cleaning the pipe with a wire brush.

I then re-establish a new bevel on the cutting edge of the hoe. I used my tormek jigs on my bench top grinder.

I then stick ended the two metal parts.

Using my rotary tool I cleaned the welds a little bit.

I then added a coat of primer and then a coat of black to keep rust away.

For the bottom I turned a small conical piece out of beech which I epoxied in place. This makes the tool a little bit easier to hold on an upright position and also prevents it from slipping from your hand.

I then used a piece of platani to turn a planting tool. This is basically a cone with a handle. You push it against the ground to make a hole and then you place your plant in the soil.

September is the month for my winter veggies garden. So I had to make these two tools.

But that was it. See you soon with a new project video.
